China Crisis formed in 1979 in Kirkby on Merseyside, with a core band of vocalist/keyboardist Garry Daly and guitarist Eddie Lundon. The band was signed to Virgin Records and recorded their debut album, Difficult Shapes & Passive Rhythms: Some People Think It’s Fun To Entertain, which was released in December 1982.
A re-release of ‘African & White’ became China Crisis’ first hit in the UK, reaching number 45 in the UK Singles Chart. When the follow-up single, ‘Christian’ made UK number 12 in early 1983, this brought them to national prominence along with ‘Wishful Thinking’. The band toured Europe and USA during the late eighties and and we are delighted they are performing for us this May!

"Down to earth, good looking and self deprecating, Des has got wit and charm in bundles. Great numbers by some of the great song writers all fell under Des' spell as mirth and music filled the theatre. Cheeky, cheerful and just downright brilliant as an entertainer, Des showed us all what a true gentleman of show business he is and why he is loved by so many. He is still pulling them in, still has so much to give and leaves so many others in his wake.
A delightful night out and one I hope will be repeated."

The “Beach Boys” are one of the most successful bands of all time, and are often referred to as "America's Band".
Their music has appealed to all age groups around the world for decades, and are still just as popular today.
No other Band from the USA has had such a major influence on other bands and musicians that followed.
The “U.K. Beach Boys” spent over 6 months preparing and rehearsing a show that could faithfully reproduce the Beach Boys magical sound.
They have now been performing their show to audiences all over the UK, and Europe for the past 14 years, and receive many compliments from clients, venues, and fellow musicians alike.
The U.K Beach Boys have a repertoire of over 35 songs, including all the major hits from the 1962 to present day, both here and in the US, and are proud to be a completely "LIVE" act, without resorting to the use of backing tracks to produce their show.

‘The Memory of Water’
A Black Comedy by Shelagh Stephenson
Three sisters come together for their mother’s funeral. Their memories don’t match. Their attitudes are not appropriate. They all have problems, not least with each other. Their mother made them what they are, but their focus is not on the dear departed – more on the left behind.
Heart warming, troubling, sad, and uncontrollably funny, this play won the Olivier Award for Best Comedy when it opened in London in 2000. Linda Cowley directs a strong cast, most of whom have also worked together with the Taboo Theatre Company.
This adult play includes some strong language.
This amateur production of "The Memory of Water" is presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH LTD
Jo Burt is an English songwriter, storyteller, singer and guitar player possibly best known for his incredible history working
with musical legends such as Freddie Mercury, The Troggs and even Black Sabbath over the past 40 years.
The show comprises tracks from the brand new album together with audience favourites from previous releases
'Indestructible' and 'Seven Seeds'; and is interspersed with Jo's own versions of some of the huge hits that have shaped
his career (Wild Thing, Paranoid, 2-4-6-8 Motorway etc).
Jo's writing style is based on his background of rock, with a southern-style influence and a very English 'Beatles-esque'
twist. To use his own terms – 'Anglicana' and 'psycho-country'. He is an hypnotic performer, drawing in his listeners with
tales from his recording and touring past, and telling gripping and intriguing stories through his songs themselves. His
warm and enthusiastic approach never fails to endear him to his audience and the connection and friendship with his
band is equally apparent as they clearly thrive on performing Jo's music. It shows - together with his band, Jo continues to
electrify his audience with the mixture of honesty, intensity and humour that he brings to each performance.

Bristol Old Vic Theatre School present Dylan Thomas's Under Milk Wood
Directed by Christopher Scott
"We are not wholly bad or good, who live our lives under Milk Wood."
"Dylan Thomas's beautiful, bawdy, affectionate, reckless and deeply original play was justly crowned at its first performance by a storm of cheers." So wrote The Times on Under Milk Wood's stage debut.
In the fictitious fishing village of Llareggub, this twenty four hour peek into the lives and loves of the likes of Captain Cat, Polly Garter and Willy Nilly has continued to enthral its audiences ever since. With its canvas of nonsense gossip, feuds, affairs, fights, frauds and practical jokes, the play pulses with the vitality and relish of real life characters re-living their dreams and desires. Come closer now, and enter the world of Under Milk Wood.
"It is spring, moonless night in the small town, starless and bible-black, the cobbledstreets silent and the hunched courters'-and-rabbits' wood limping invisible down to the sloeblack, slow, black, crowblack, fishingboat-bobbing sea."
The annual west Country tour by Bristol Old Vic Theatre School comes to The Exchange through Artsreach, Dorset's touring arts charity.
After a sellout concert in 2016 at The Exchange (one of the highlights of the year at the venue) The Christians return for what will be another great night. If you missed them first time round make sure not to miss out and book early!
Renowned for an endless string of soulful yet socially aware hits. Forgotten Town, Ideal World, Born Again, Harvest for the World, What's in a Word, Hooverville, Words, Father, The Bottle and many more The Christians enjoyed huge acclaim in the late 80s and early 90s both in the UK and Europe and often confused people with their band name (in fact just the brothers surname with absolutely no religious connotation!)
Still headed by enigmatic lead singer Garry Christian (who very much deserves the Daily Mirror's description of him as having 'one of the finest voices in pop) who has only gained in vocal stature (and wit) over the years, the band are enjoying a revival currently touring successfully in the UK and Europe.
