Prof. Robert Winston
Modifying Humans: Where Does Genetics Stop?

Does the sequencing of human genomes really herald a new opportunity for medicine or is there a darker side that we ignore?

Advances in gene technology mean that we can not only select embryos for ‘desirable’ characteristics but we can now modify genes of animals with remarkable ease; so possibly very soon we may be able to enhance humans by genetic modification.

Will ethical considerations prevent us from the next step - manufacturing stronger, more gifted and very intelligent children? Or will our imperfect knowledge of how our abilities are inherited mean that they there are some major surprises in store?

The Quo Experience

The Quo Experience
The Quo Experience' is a band with an impressively experienced line-up including Shaun Michaels (as Francis Rossi) and Dave Crawte (as the late Rick Parfitt), who have both featured in quality Quo tribute acts in the past. Shaun and Dave have spent years studying every detail of Rossi and Parfitt's looks, playing styles and stage performances to make sure they are both as close to the real thing on stage as is possible, without actually being the legendary rock duo themselves!

However, The Quo Experience is not all about Rick and Francis; it also features Graham Partridge, a superb keyboard player who captures the magic of Andy Bown's playing and vocals perfectly; Alex Bayou, a brilliant ‘Matt Letley’ style drummer, who has been playing along to Quo since he was four years old, and Brian ‘Brino’ Smith on bass, a well-known and respected ‘Rhino’-style player and performer on the Quo tribute circuit for over ten years, who thumps out the Rhino bass lines to help give The Quo Experience the stomach thumping sound every Quo Army fan expects to hear!

With such an impressive line-up of seriously experienced musicians and passionate Quo fans, along with a stage show that includes a wall of white Marshalls, Mark Bass amps and cabs, Bose PA and a quality light show, The Quo Experience is fully armed to take the act as far as is possibly achievable in the tribute band industry.

The Quo Experience is, however, not just another Quo tribute band - it is an 'experience'; an ongoing chance to 'experience' the sounds and looks of "Britain's biggest singles chart band of all time" as we all remember it!

BOVTS - Under Milk Wood

BOVTS - Under Milk Wood
Bristol Old Vic Theatre School present Dylan Thomas's Under Milk Wood

Directed by Christopher Scott

"We are not wholly bad or good, who live our lives under Milk Wood."

"Dylan Thomas's beautiful, bawdy, affectionate, reckless and deeply original play was justly crowned at its first performance by a storm of cheers." So wrote The Times on Under Milk Wood's stage debut.

In the fictitious fishing village of Llareggub, this twenty four hour peek into the lives and loves of the likes of Captain Cat, Polly Garter and Willy Nilly has continued to enthral its audiences ever since. With its canvas of nonsense gossip, feuds, affairs, fights, frauds and practical jokes, the play pulses with the vitality and relish of real life characters re-living their dreams and desires. Come closer now, and enter the world of Under Milk Wood.

"It is spring, moonless night in the small town, starless and bible-black, the cobbledstreets silent and the hunched courters'-and-rabbits' wood limping invisible down to the sloeblack, slow, black, crowblack, fishingboat-bobbing sea."

The Christians
After a sellout concert in 2016 at The Exchange (one of the highlights of the year at the venue) The Christians return for what will be another great night. If you missed them first time round make sure not to miss out and book early!

Renowned for an endless string of soulful yet socially aware hits. Forgotten Town, Ideal World, Born Again, Harvest for the World, What's in a Word, Hooverville, Words, Father, The Bottle and many more The Christians enjoyed huge acclaim in the late 80s and early 90s both in the UK and Europe and often confused people with their band name (in fact just the brothers surname with absolutely no religious connotation!)

Still headed by enigmatic lead singer Garry Christian (who very much deserves the Daily Mirror's description of him as having 'one of the finest voices in pop) who has only gained in vocal stature (and wit) over the years, the band are enjoying a revival currently touring successfully in the UK and Europe. www.thechristianslive.co.uk
