A Night of Blues 'n' Boogie

A Night of Blues ‘n’ Boogie – 3 great acts: -

A wonderfully varied and entertaining night of blues! Three great acts showcasing the superb talents of Julian Phillips Boogie-Woogie solo piano, acoustic American roots and blues duo Adam Sweet and Paddy Blight, and as always, the ever-popular contemporary electric blues of Zoe Schwarz Blue Commotion.

Set 1, Part 1: (35 minutes)

Julian Phillips – Boogie-Woogie Piano (duo)

As one of the UK's top boogie-woogie piano players, Julian has gained a great reputation for his wide and varied repertoire in the boogie and blues genre and is one of the founder organisers of the UK boogie-woogie festival here at Sturminster Newton.

Julian has played concerts and festivals in Europe and America and is highly esteemed by his fellow players.  He taught himself how to play the piano at the age of fourteen by listening to and interpreting the music of the great boogie-woogie pioneers including Jimmy Yancey and Pinetop Smith. His love and knowledge of blues ‘n boogie is infectious, and whether playing solo or performing with other musicians his enjoyment of the music is intensely evident.

Set 1, Part 2: (35 minutes)

Adam Sweet and Paddy Blight - Acoustic Blues, Folk, and Americana duo.

Adam delivers brooding blues and roots, balancing richly detailed songwriting with soulful vocals and expertly crafted guitar work.

“He is simply among the most original and visionary young musicians currently on the cusp of widespread discovery.”

Adam’s acclaimed solo performances with just his acoustic guitar and stomp box for company have seen him play every kind of venue, from the most intimate house concerts and bar rooms to theatres and festivals across the UK and Europe. In this format he has supported dozens of bands and artists from Blues, Folk and Americana genres including Dr Feelgood, Laurence Jones, Beth Rowley, Martin Taylor, Chantel McGregor, Elles Bailey and Wille & the Bandits.

On this occasion, he is joined by band-mate bass-guitarist Paddy Blight this time on double bass.

“There is an honesty and integrity to Sweet's delivery that is very compelling and avoids obvious cliché”  - Fatea Magazine

"The sound of someone who could end up being very special indeed." - The Rocker

"One of the most promising artists I've seen in a while. Not the usual formula blues, this guy offers something just a little bit different with hooky songs, great playing and a decent vocal. I WILL be keeping an eye on this guy's progress and catching him again as soon as I can"- Alan Bates (live review)
